Militants targeting madarsas

Baramula, October 8
Taking a cue from jehadi elements in Pakistan who have turned madrasas as breeding ground for recruitment, militants operating in the Kashmir valley have started targeting the religious schools to fill up their dwindling ranks, a senior police officer said today.

Teenaged students in madrasas are the main target of the militants which was evident with the rescue of three boys in the age group of 11 to13 years from the clutches of militants at Aham Sharief in the Bandipora area of North Kashmir on Saturday, Deputy Inspector General of Police, and in-charge Kupwara and Baramula districts, Ashok Kumar Gupta told reporters here.

The boys studying in Darul-Aloom Usmania located in Pulwama district were intercepted by police while they were being taken to the Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) for arms training by the Al-Badr militant outfit, he said after handing over the boys to their parents today. — PTI

Kidnapped youth’s body found

Jammu, October 8
The police has recovered the body of a youth, kidnapped by ultras on September 28, while the body of a special police officer (SPO) was found hanging from a tree in the forest area of Nagrota in Jammu district, official sources said here today.

The sources said the body of Zaffar Iqbal(25), who was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen on September 28 from Nerojal area in Rajouri district, was recovered from Kot Behrot village last evening.

In another incident, the police found the body of SPO, Vinod Kumar, hanging from a tree under mysterious circumstances in Sidhra forerst of Nagrota town in Jammu district. — PTI
