About LoveLove is a verb, it is a state of mind which necessarily is an action. The ancient Greek that Jesus spoke made use of various words to describe the kinds of affection or love we experience. The word 'philia' means affection (as in Philadelphia which means brotherly affection or brotherly love (delphos = brother)). 'Eros', means sensual affection and can be described as desire or erotic love. Jesus reintroduced an almost redundant word from the Greek archives to explain the love which God has for God's children, and which God's children should learn to have for one another - it is a different kind of love called 'agape'. Agape can be described as unconditional positive regard, a state of mind that spurs us into action in simplicity, humility, compassion and equanimity. Erotica, familial affection, and passionate desire are psychosomatic conditions we sometimes generate, sometimes fall victim to - Agape is a higher form of love which we need to cultivate within our souls. We inherited the potential for agape, it is seminally present in our being, what we have to do is to germinate and nurture it. We need to create the proper germination environment in which it can sprout, grow and come to flower and fruit. While 'eros' and 'philia' are temporal psychosomatic conditions of a lower nature, agape is a permanent conditioning of the spirit that is deliberately cultivated over time, with patience and care.
Love is the higher form of knowledgePlato at the end of his painful career seeking Truth discovered this message. The human mind is a created thing that serves the spirit as one of the sensory receptors. The mind, or soul (Gk. 'psyche') is the emotive and rational aspect of the human condition. The study of soul is rightfully called psychology because it studies the makeup of the reasoning tool, how and why it brings emotional experiences, and its reactions with regards issues such as duty, desire, ego needs, etc. The mind is a limited body (or organ) of some intelligence and humans are yet to learn how to harness its subtle powers of creation, communication and manipulation of laws and forces of nature. We exert only about 10% of our ability, says some of the theories. The mind is rather good at basic computing, recognizing patterns and investigating alternatives and it can be said to be a reasoning tool as well as an emotional sensory tool along with other things. It is however so limited that it presently communicates in gross language, and it does not do this well at all. Communication and language construction is not one of its very strong points. Another aspect where mind=s >Intel Inside= fails dismally is right there where God so programmes it - mind cannot fathom the higher mysteries about God. It simply ceases because it, like any computer, is reliant on input data. In order to fathom God and the higher mysteries we have to rise beyond the genius of the Platos, Aristotles, and those who followed in their ranks. And then we need to take cognizance of these great souls= words spoken at the end of their careers, when they finally realized the limits of mind - 'love is the higher form of knowledge'. The Saviour echoed this ancient Truism but not only by parroting his predecessors - Yesu lived this principle. Our Lord illustrated in his life how, through love, he could be in direct communication with the One, how he could gain God the Mother, Wisdom, to abide in him. And Yesu rose to tower over the philosophers, wise men, sophists and magicians - because he was in Love. The state of being called love is the necessary bridge of energy needed for the mind to receive spiritual information from on high. No more is the mind computer=s input restricted to information from the human condition - but through love a modem connection is made to the spiritual realm and a higher form of input is achieved. The once limited number-crunching computer with emotional abilities suddenly blossoms as it receives the subtlest information in the language of love. And the mystic is rewarded with sweet ecstatic rapture as otherworldly insight fills its bios and deletes obsolete nonsense files and rewrites outdated programmes. Love is the modem connection to Realnet. Without love you can only surf the Internet, as a teaser to the Real thing. ActionThe Saviour is an active type, and he calls us into action as well. We should not expect good results from life if we remain on the passive or receiving end. We need to imitate Christ. We need to be outwardly going about reconstructing society, healing, caring, stirring, renewing, challenging, serving, serving, serving. This is not a sedentary life we are called to, it=s a life of action, giving, giving - and giving in order to receive that flood of energy which we will continue to give out. Love is a verb and necessarily calls for action. It is a thoroughly western Christian notion that faith alone is good enough for salvation. How this error came to be, and what the reason for its concoction is, we don't know. James, the younger biological brother of Yesu disagreed with Paul, the apostle to the Romans, on this issue. He wrote that faith without actions is dead. To declare one's faith that Yesu is supreme Son of God is neither a challenge or difficult, or spirit growth-inducing at all. The demons do this frequently in Acts of Thomas and other Scripture but they are not moved to act in love, and therefore remain condemned to a negative lifestyle. Once one becomes convinced of Truth one must be moved to action, to respond, and only then does one set foot on the thousand-mile journey inward, homeward, Godward. The Way is a walk...not a talk. How do we understand Community Work?Yesu said, 'Love the Lord with all your heart, soul and mind and love your neighbour as yourself.' This is what community work is about. The only way that you can get to this kind of love is by doing community work. To be able to love others as yourself, you must put yourself in positions where you have to love the other people so much. Without community work, you will never really be able to love other people like you love yourself. By doing community work you are becoming a Saattvika person. Without selfless giving, you will not be able to do community work - and it is only by doing community work that you learn how to give selflessly. Only through learning the different aspects of love can you reach the higher form of knowledge, which is Wisdom.
